At the present time a vacancy for a Linux Network Engineer position exists within the division of Innovative Educational Services at the Chester County Intermediate Unit.
Summary:
The Linux Network Engineer is responsible for working with the IES network team on the engineering, design, configuration, installation, maintenance, and upgrades of local, regional and state networks. This position monitors network performance to ensure service guarantees are being met, and takes action such as notifying the customer and network support team when they are not. This position then works with the network support team, helping return the network to expected performance levels. The position assists in resolving technology-related problems and develops innovative ways to reduce costs. The position works closely with IES staff to develop and/or aggregate resources that can be used by customers to save money on technology infrastructure and support.
Responsibilities:
1. Perform basic engineering, design, implementation and maintenance tasks. 2. Coordinate the installation of hardware such as routers, switches, fiber runs, etc. 3. Assist with the on-going assessment and upgrade of networks. 4. Write code to manage and monitor our network infrastructure. 5. Collect and analyze data network statistics. 6. Assist with network related customer support tickets. 7. Provide the most up-to-date, accurate information during maintenance windows and network disruptions to customers. 8. Remain informed of new technologies, developments, and trends and evaluate their application.
9. Make recommendations to management on desirable additions and developments. 10. Provide customers with a variety of solutions to resolve performance and capacity issues. 11. Ensure customer satisfaction with services provided by CCIU/IES.
Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related field, and at least 5-years’ experience supporting networks preferably in a customer service oriented position.
2. Experience configuring and troubleshooting data network routing and switching, using 10/100/1000 copper and 1G/10G fiber (both single mode and multimode) cable.
3. Experience with PPTP, IPsec VPNs, and enterprise-class firewalls.
4. Linux experience required.
5. Knowledge of best practices and processes for network threat detection and mitigation, such as protecting against DDoS.
